This guide covers how to initiate domestic Swedish payments via the Aritma Banking API. It covers the three domestic payment types and which API parameters to use for each. Sweden has a unique payment landscape with multiple creditor account types — Bankgiro, Plusgiro, and BBAN (domestic bank account numbers) — each with distinct identification schemes, clearing member IDs, and bank-specific rules.

Payment typeCreditor identified bycreditorAccount
Bankgiro paymentBankgiro number (7–8 digits)other.schemeName: "BGNR"
Plusgiro paymentPlusgiro number (2–8 digits)other.schemeName: "PGNR"
Account paymentClearing number + account numberbban

All three are sent to the same endpoint with the same JSON structure. Aritma uses the account type, currency and country you send to create the correct domestic payment for the customer's bank. You don't need to send bank-specific values such as clearing member IDs for Bankgiro or Plusgiro.

Structured addresses from November 2026

From November 2026, townName and country are mandatory in both debtorAddress and creditorAddress. Payments without them may be rejected by the bank. Start sending them now.

Invalid OCR references are rejected

If the OCR reference doesn't match the payee's OCR agreement with Bankgirot or Plusgirot, the bank can reject the payment. Validate the check digit before sending, and never put free text in an OCR reference.

Important: Payments can only be instructed from Bankgiro numbers that are linked to a bank account serviced by the debtor's bank. Payments can only be instructed from Bankgiro numbers that are linked to a bank account serviced by the debtor's bank.
